Valentine's Day!

Although Valentine's Day in my opinion is not a real holiday- I mean we don't get off of work or anything I do still love celebrating, well, LOVE! Not just romantic love but family love, friendship love, pet love and anything in between. I mean let's face it- we all love to be loved and love to be loved well!

This year it really hit me how well I am loved. It all started on Saturday when Ryan and I headed to Huntsville, TX (our old college stomping grounds) to spend the day together. We haven't spent an entire day down there on our own since probably wedding planning so I was definitely excited! Ryan took me to potato shack which is a place you can get ANY type of potato on earth. It is amazing. I got a chicken, bacon, ranch potato and Ryan got a chicken cordon blue. Seriously. Any kind of potato- so wonderful! We got our food to go because Ryan said we were going on a picnic. We headed over to Austin Hall where on the steps we met, Ryan proposed and later we had our wedding reception- I love seeing the building because it holds so many memories for us. We used to pray together in the garden beside the building when we were dating so we actually set-up shop there because someone was filming a music video in front of it. Once we finished and music video was over we took a few pictures and headed on to the rest of our day...

We went shopping on the square where there are tons of antique shops that have always held my heart, they are so quaint and always have fun stuff to see. Then we headed to the duckpond and Sam Houston's houses...

That night we went to The Homestead which is this precious log cabin restaurant with AMAZING food- I had never eaten there before and was completely impressed. It was a perfect setting!

Sunday we went to church and lunch with my parents and cousin- we had great Mexican. My parents always give us V-day surprises, my dad has been giving my sister and I candy for our entire lives and it is one of my favorite things about the day. That night we had a little Valentine's Day party with our students from church. I love our students. They are awesome.

Monday I worked and Ryan skipped school- his new schedule has him there on Mondays from 1-10pm so he decided to sit that day out because we were going to dinner that night. We headed to my Aunt Zonakay's house to deliver V-day goodness of cupcakes and candy for the boys and my Nana- it was great to see them even though we did not jump on the trampoline much to their dismay because we were dressed up. I love seeing my boys and the rest of my family. After that we headed to Sushi Choo Choo which is a gem that Ryan found for our anniversary lunch that we just can't get enough of. It is a moving sushi bar. it is my favorite place right now. That night I checked the mail, against Ryan's wishes- he said it made it "undate like" for us to check the mail but I love the mail and was so glad we did because I received a few valentine's day cards from friends that were so sweet!

Valentine's Day can be a happy day for so many reasons, I feel so lucky to have the amazing friends and family that are involved in my life and love me unconditionally. I also feel so blessed to be married to Ryan. He loves me better than anyone in the world and unfortunately that is not always the case in marriages. Valentine's Day for me isn't about getting presents or spending money- it's more about celebrating the relationships in your life, spoiling each other and eating chocolate! Ryan never ceases to amaze me with the way he loves me- he is so forgiving, calm, cool-tempered, caring, Christ-like, such a good listener and is constantly spoiling me beyond what I deserve. I will never know the reason God chose to bless me with him but I intend to spend the rest of my life trying to make him feel as great as he makes me feel.

Happy Valentine's Day! Regardless of whether you are married, single or in a relationship I hope that you will spend this week loving the people in your life well. If we aren't working on our relationships and bringing each other closer to God than what are we doing??
